I don't know. Seems to me we have a lot of guys in our club flying
something with a prop or fan, myself included, and many times these are
being flown at the sailplane field. Maybe the AMA rag isn't all sailplanes
all the time, but that's why I look forward to reading the internet groups
and the monthly RCSD. AMA could devote an entire issue to sailplanes in the
future, and it probably still won't be as good as any one issue of RCSD, so
why expect it?
As of right now, I own 5 sailplanes, 1 electric glider, 1 helicopter, and 1
electric warbird (and two offroad cars), and have different fun with each
one. The only thing I refuse to get back into is gas stuff. I actually
enjoyed reading the various EDF articles in this month's AMA issue, and
would bet some of those Bob Violet models have more blood sweat and tears
time into them than any of our sailplanes whether we built them ourselves or
not. I just think we need to be careful before casting the net of
non-sailplaners just don't understand.
People either like sailplanes, or they don't. You can't force it by making
AMA run more sailplane articles, and I seriously doubt it spurs more
interest. My neighbor, and probably best friend at this point, is a
completely over-the-top RC nutcase. But, he refuses to come to the flying
field with me. He has no interest in anything without a prop. He marvels
at my current RES build and I marvel at the 3D heli he is assembling from
scratch.
I for one like all aspects of the hobby and really have no issue with the
AMA mag.

AMA = All Motorized Airplanes
LSF = League of Silent Flight (How True)
:)
P.S. Gordy's birthday is Friday. He wants a Bruno outfit to wear on his
next Brazil trip. LOL

In defense of the AVPs, its a thankless job done buy volenteers who have for
the most part slowed their own modeling down and have some time to do the
AVP job.
There is sooo much more power stuff going on constantly that it buries the
little bit of things we think are important.
The District columns take a lot of heat from everyone who doesn't get
represented each month.
And of course everything we do 'must' be of interest to the rest of the rc
community :-).

Wow, Michael, you have some serious anger issues. :)
I just sent an email to Charlie informing him of the upcoming The Bruce. I
figured a 70+ pilot DLG contest in his district with the top pilots from all
over the world would be something of interest to him. He said that if I
provide him with a write up and 10 high quality images that we could
basically have one of his monthly columns.
I don't know if he will stick to his word on that or not but I figure since
I was planning on driving over to Shelbyville in June for a few hours so I
can make more of my crummy Youtube videos like this:

I may as well send him a few prints and some write up. I figure Tony and
Ed will probably be taking some pictures too and they will do way better
than I could so if they have better images I'll send their stuff with the
appropriate credit instead.

Look at the 'content' Charlie Bauer provides for his (ours) district. Maybe
I'm a dolt but I know nothing of what is going on in our district by his
column.
