  Subject: [LASS Soaring] spoiler servos?

I'm looking for an opinion from this group regarding spoiler servos. I'm fitting the spoiler on my hybrid Bubble Dancer/Genie RES wing. It's a center panel, single spoiler ala the BD and early AVA. I want to keep it as light as possible so am considering installing a generic 9 gram servo. I'm considering this for a couple of reasons: I already have a couple laying around, they are cheap to replace, and the mounting will allow the servo to be fully serviceable if a gear strips. In other words, I'm not gluing it into the wing.

But these things are fairly low torque, so should I be concerned with torque requirements on a spoiler? As far as I could see, the most stress would be placed on the spoiler if I'm doing a hell dive out of a thermal, and even with that this spoiler will probably only see about a 60 degree opening due to its high positioning on the wing and overall size of the spoiler. I'm not too concerned with centering ability because I'm also going to incorporate some additional tension to help keep the spoiler closed.

  Any other thoughts or considerations?

  Dion
