LASS Club 2-channel contest
Sorry for the late response to the "buy 5 new high starts" series, but I would like to add my 2 cents worth to this discussion.
Dion Dunn came up with the idea to start this contest with the idea that it would be for 2-meter, 2 channel airplanes. And launching would be by hi-starts. This quickly morphed into an any size, fly what you have, BUT only 2 channels may be used for control. (Specifically to control pitch and yaw, no landing control(s) permitted.)
This pretty much requires different strengths of hi-starts that are at least somewhat suited to the airplane. And that is what we have allowed.
I have to say that this concept has been an overwhelming success with considerable member participation. Many thanks to Dion and others for their time and participation.
I am confused by the sudden drive for 5 identical hi-starts. Why would we want to do this? To penalize the airplanes that don't launch well on the "standard" hi-start?
Let's remember that this is an informal monthly contest. Based on participation it is working well. These proposed changes will, (I believe) reduce participation because those who don't have smaller airplanes will be handicapped by low launch heights and may decide not to participate.
I believe that we should make only one change to our current format. Each contestant may use whichever hi-start they choose, even if it slows down the completion of that particular round. In other words, if more than one person wants to use a particular hi-start that will be allowed.
Let's please remember that participation for club members and others to come for the friendly competition that FUN is the goal of this event.
