[LASS Soaring] bad crystal?

I went out flying today (well, I tried anyway) only to be grounded by a
really glitchy radio. I tried changing batteries, removing and replacing
the servo leads, removing and turning the crystal around, everything. So
no, I did not actually get any flying in.

When I got home, I tried another receiver and it worked fine. Hoping the
receiver in the plane isn't bad, I replaced the crystal with a new one, and
it worked perfectly. Here is the possible cause: a few weeks ago out at the
field, on my last flight of the day the rudder servo decides to strip its
gears in flight during final approach. Result - the Sagitta went nose first
into one of the big pine trees and slid down to the ground. No apparent
damage, but it was a good smack at the bottom. The receiver was wrapped in
foam, so I didn't think anything about it. I got home, replaced the servo
gears with new metal gears, tested out the radio and servo and everything
was working fine. Fast forward 2 weeks to today, and the crystal is bad.
How does that happen?
