Louisville today was ..WINDY!
Glaring sun, about 75 but fairly high humidity too.

We all got to the field at 11ish, and the air was acting like some thermals
were pushing thru fast.

It was toss up as to which way to set the winch, so we decided to split the
direction difference.

I'd picked up Lee and the winch at Ed Wilson's (LSF VP Candidate), and got
everything set up for our normal club day of soaring.

I had my Marauder and Super AVA for some practice flights (hoping to defend
my RES title at the upcoming TNT).

It was as expected, the lift was strong, very small cores, moving very fast
down wind. Miss the core and get to re-launch, catch it and plan on heading
off in the distance quick....I did.

I put up my usual talking timer countdown from 10, but choked the landing by
about 10' (Don't have a clue about landing the Marauder...yet, only have a
couple of flights to date).

Lee went up a few times with his timer set at 30, but clearly wasn't focus'
d and it was getting close to that noon balloon thing where the lift just
doesn't happen.

I got some 10's on the Marauder and let Lee fly it around some too. About
1:30 the lift returned in a big way, still had the wind, still had the big
areas of sink but the cores were getting bigger and a little easier to follow.

I had to get (flight to catch to MN this afternoon) so I said I was going to
pack up. Lee was bumming cuz he wanted to get that first LSF3 30min flight
in. Pretty sure he has all his contest points (won sportsman in Tullahoma)
also needed his go and return.

It was clear that the air was at least one hour quality so I called she who
must be obeyed to let her know I'd be later than I planned...and put Lee up a
few times to get his head into the task. On the third launch all the
indicators were there and he went of, hooked up and sky'd out.

Twice he had to bring it back to see it and needed to re-aquire, but he did
it. 31:31 official time!

A high five and I was gone....but Lee had a taste of success and pushed Ed
and a fellow pickup trucked clubmate into doing his goal and return.
According the report, he launched, hooked up high and did the route....ending higher
than when he left.

11 year old smiles shine even in bright sunlight :-)

So which tasks did you guys work on today?
Gordy
