What with our contest coming up soon, I just saw this on the ESL mailing list.  It's Dr. Drela's food checklist for his CRRC contest.  As you might expect, it's fairly detailed and well-reasoned with some efficiencies capitalized. :)

FWIW, below is my food checklist I used for the CRRC contest.

My rules of thumb are 
1/4 lb lunchmeat/person,
3 slices bread/person,
on average.

One time-saving trick when shopping is to give the grocery-deli guy a list
with the meat and cheese order, which he cuts up while you can gather
all the other stuff.  Saves about 1/2 hour of standing at the deli counter.

Or you can just order a 5 ft sub like the they do at Poway.

Saturday -- 18 fliers

2 lb  smoked turkey
1 lb  pastrami
1 lb  roast beef
1 lb  ham

30 thin slices  Swiss
20 thin slices  Provolone

4  large tomatoes
1/2  large head of lettuce

1 big tub potato salad (~3 lb)
1 big tub cole slaw

2  large bags  potato chips

2  jars pickles

1/2  squeeze bottle dark mustard
1/2  squeeze bottle mayonnaise

3   2l bottles soda (Sprite, Coke, Diet Coke)
24  bottles water

paper plates
plastic forks
cups
napkins

2  Arnold's Jewish Rye bread
2  split wheat bread

Sunday -- 15 fliers

1.5 lb  smoked turkey
1 lb  pastrami
1 lb  ham

25 thin slices  Swiss
15 thin slices  Provolone

3 large tomatoes
1/2  large head of lettuce

1 big tub potato salad 

1 large bag potato chips
1 medium bag potato chips

1 jar pickles

1/2  squeeze bottle dark mustard
1/2  squeeze bottle mayonnaise
